Honey: a gift from nature
Honey is a sweet, viscous substance made by bees from the nectar of flowers. This natural sweetener has been used by humans for thousands of years in various cultures, including the ancient Egyptians, Chinese, Greeks, and Romans. It is valued for its taste, health benefits, and therapeutic uses.  
How honey is made
Bees collect nectar from blossoms and store it in their honey stomachs. Inside the hive, worker bees add enzymes to the nectar and reduce its water content by regurgitating it and fanning their wings, transforming it into honey. The honey is stored in honeycomb cells, which are sealed with wax caps to preserve it.

Honey is mainly made up of carbohydrates, specifically fructose and glucose. It contains small amounts of vitamins, minerals (such as B6, thiamin, niacin, calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, and zinc), and enzymes. Honey is also rich in antioxidants, including flavonoids and phenolic acids, which help protect the body from cell damage and may lower the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease and certain cancers.  
A tablespoon of honey (about 20 grams) provides approximately 64 calories.
